"chutney restaurant on friar lane /maid marian way Nottingham i decided to try after hearing so many positives about it from people at my work place
dined there last night and simply wow fabulous meal and pleasant service
such a contrast to some Indian restaurants i have visited in last 6 months
what i liked about chutney was that it was such a relaxed place to dine with my friends and most importantly the food was simply delicious
i guess its not a proper review unless i say something negative as well but to be honest there was no negatives i really mean it - chutney was a great place to have a good Indian meal
whoever owns the place all i can say keep up the good work and thank you

"i have been by myself and with friends lots of times and the service and food are always excellent.only negatives are sometimes its a little dark and hard to see what you are eating(there`s ambience and there`s ambience)and sometimes when ive nipped to the loo,ive come back to pickles and poppadoms i didnt order but will have to pay for.this small quibble aside, its a great place and the food is gorgeous."

"My wife & myself went to 'Chutney' on Saturday, & had a gorgeous meal. It was far better than any other curry I have had in any other restaurant. I did feel it edged towards the pricey side - our bill came to £65.00 for two (though this did include drinks, a shared starter, rice, nan breads, & dessert). I was also slightly miffed that they billed us for the poppadoms & pickles - which we hadn't ordered, & assumed were complimentary...a tad cheeky of them, but no big deal.
As previously stated, the food is exceptional. I loved every mouthful. The service is very friendly, without being pushy.
Great stuff...will certainly go again (They kindly gave us a discount card!)"

"Went to Chutney restaurant on Friar Lane yesterday evening with a group of friends. It was very busy but I have to say the food was of a very high quality and the service was good considering how busy the restaurant was. Not often do I write a review for anything so it must be a compliment to the restaurant that I have bothered to write a review.
Highly reccommended place to eat for sure."

"This restaurant by far is the best indian restaurant in nottingham, no ponsey interior, staff leave you alone but are great when they see to you and the food is divine. And plus old Gordon Ramsey would love this place......."

"I have been to Chutney Jacks so many times that have lost count. I want to say that it's not one of the best but i will say it is the best place to hang out. The staff over there works hard to give you good food, good service and at a very reasonable price. Although price is never a factor for the best but yes i will say it is a place to visit.
Special commendation to yassin the owner/manager who is doing a fabulous job...

"One of the best curries I have had in a long time, and the staff are always very friendly and helpful."

"I have to agree with the other positive reviews already given for this place.
Pricewise, I think that Chutney's neatly occupies the mid-price range... a bit more expensive than your bog-standard old fashioned late night curry house, but slightly cheaper than the bigger, modern "brasserie" type restaurants (i.e. most of the others on Maid Marion Way).
Service is good (can suffer a little when really busy though, on a busy saturday night), and although I normally find poppadoms quite boring, the larger than usual array of dips and chutneys that come with them here make them so much more interesting.
Main courses include the "Old Colonial", a gooey, nicely spiced dish containing chicken, spinach and cheese melted throughout (ask them to make it hotter than usual for a flavour sensation), and for the heat-seaker, "Ghandi''s Revenge", a very hot but flavoursome number. If you are into side-dishes, their tarka-dhal is fantastic, one of the best I have ever had. Smooth, garlicky, and an almost buttery creaminess...possibly from the use of ghee in the dish. It''s almost impossible to believe that it contains lentils, surely one of natures dullest foodstuffs.
If you have drinks, main courses (with rice/bread), and starters or side dishes, don''t expect any change from a 20, but don''t expect to find much more than this. As mentioned in another review, not the place for a romantic date but great to be at with a group of friends. I would however say that I can see it being an ok place for a family meal, but probably best on a weeknight and fairly early on in the evening."

"A totally true indian experience- i was amazed to find such a varied stylish menu with such friendly staff the atmosphere was great - the food is the best ive tasted for all curry lovers whom like quality food. I was impressed with the decor which is very modern and minimal.
This is the place to go if you like a great indian meal with average city prices recommended if you are a true connousier of indian mouth watering dishes."

"A really good Indian is often hard to come by so it's something of a surprise to find that Chutney Jack's is so popular and with good reason. The decor might be tacky, loud and cafe-inspired (and not in the traditional tandoori house fashion) but the food is actually pretty good.
Most of the menu is given over to the chef's specials, most of which are tasty and a pleasant change from your usual kormas and bhunas. Price wise you can't go wrong with Chutney Jack's - you certainly don't pay any more than you would at a traditional city centre curry place. A good vegetarian selection means that this is a great venue for a group night out which immediately becomes clear as you arrive to find yourself surrounded by cheerful collections of people enjoying a joke, a beer and a poppadum or two.
All in all, this might not be your first choice for a family dinner or a date but if you've had a couple of drinks and need to line that stomach before you carry on, don't miss this fun venue with attitude."
